Ministry

Since 1896, Volunteers of America’s ministry has been answering God’s call to transform lives by reaching and uplifting America’s most vulnerable. Guided by Christian values, we seek to serve the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—by uniting the heart of the church with the hands of a human‑service organization. Our mission is grounded in compassion, dignity, and a deep commitment to walking alongside those in need.

As a church without walls, our Ministry of Service extends far beyond traditional settings. Across the country, we are feeding hungry families, sheltering individuals experiencing homelessness, and offering spiritual support to more than one million people each year. Through faith and service, we work to shape a better future for our neighbors, their families, and their communities.

Volunteers of America also plays a significant role in supporting veterans. Last year alone, we served more than 30,000 veterans and provided 4,000 beds every night for veterans experiencing homelessness. These efforts reflect our belief that every person—especially those who have sacrificed for our nation—deserves safety, respect, and hope.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2
